Frugal Fridays: Everyone’s A Winner

I’ll admit to it. I’m a contest hound. I never could understand why people would pay to play the lottery when they had a better shot at winning those free contests floating around.

Back in the olden days, it used to cost this gal to enter contests. I’d have to pick up entry forms at places like the grocery store (food manufacturers like to offer their contests), collect my UPC symbols and then mail the bundle off to the manufacturer. It was still worth my time because less people entered and I had better odds at winning.

Not anymore. Now contest entries are via the internet. Only UPC numbers are needed (not the actual product). Of course, no stamps. Plus I can key short cuts for my info. So contest entries are free and they still offer better odds than Powerball.

Some of my pro tips for contest entries include setting up one of those freebie e-mail addresses (like Hotmail) to handle the spam (a side effect of entries) and often I will use a variation of my name to enter (like Kim instead of Kimber). That way if I get a call asking for that name, I know that either I won the contest or it’s a telemarketer.

Yes, my name and information is usually sold to every marketer out there (I never submit any confidential information like my social security number) but odds are they’ll get the info anyway. At least this way, I have a chance at winning something (I’ve won fridges, cash, once in a lifetime events like hanging out with Kate Hudson and the rest of the Almost Famous cast).

One of the sexiest, steamiest contests now on the net is being offered by The Lingerie Post.
Anyone signing up for their newsletter is entered in a contest to win…you guessed it…lingerie.
